Brief Project Description
A Small Business Set-Aside Design-Build project to construct a new centrally located utility plant and electrical vault with associated site work for the consolidation of the facility’s major utilities to an elevation above flood level,. Major scopes of work included a new primary and secondary electrical services and distribution; hazardous material remediation including removal and disposal of fuel contaminated soils. A new secondary electrical distribution service was installed consisting of new switchboards, risers, panel boards, and 3 new 600 KW emergency generators, associated switchgear, automatic transfer switches, risers, panels. In addition, the scope included providing prime engine-generators for a total of three new 1825 kw units, associated switchgear, and automatic transfer switches and wiring, two new 400 bhp high-pressure steam boilers, associated steam production equipment and boiler control panels, 3 new pressure reducing stations located on mezzanine level in existing boiler room, eighteen new step-down transformers. new 3500 tons of chilled water primary/secondary system to include chiller, pumps, insulation and controls
This work was performed in 7 phases in an active and occupied environment. Critical systems had to remain in operation at all times. This project included new construction as well as renovation. The new utility plan was a 4-story, cast-in-place concrete structure, with precast façade & CMU interior wall construction.
